Friday 15 October 2010 – Police Commissioner Mr Vernon Francois, is supportive of a decision by government to engage the services of law enforcers from three international countries to assist local police combat rising crime on the island.
The government of Saint Lucia has already secured the services of Israeli soldiers in addition to British and American police.
Commissioner Francois says the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force will work with all genuine partners to arrest the problem.
“Any help that we can get in policing on Saint Lucia is welcomed. We are prepared to work with individuals and groups with varying experiences that may provide an opportunity for us to share resources. As police commissioner, I am in favour of any indication of cooperation.”
The island’s prime minister says the assistance of the international partners will beef up the capabilities and expertise of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force to deal with mounting crime on the island.
“Crime has no colour, no policy and no political allegiance. Crime is about us and the seeds that we planted which we are reaping today. As a government our commitment is to put all the necessary resources in place to deal with the situation and ensure that we bring control to crime in the country. We have employed more police officers and have also provided more resources. We have now engaged the assistance of the Israelis, Americans, and the British, to assist us in dealing with the situation.”
The cooperation with law enforcers in the three countries will also involve overseas attachments.
