Wednesday 8 December 2010 – As the island continues to grapple with the many challenges brought on by Hurricane Tomas, Saint Lucians are being called upon to reflect on their lives and to comfort and assist those hurting from the ravaging effects of the hurricane.
A national Day of Prayer under the theme “A Nation Inspired by Hope, United in Prayer” will be held on Monday December 13th. Coordinator for the event Rose Marie Husbands Mathurin says a number of events will unfold that day including a Youth Prayer Assembly and Ecumenical Services throughout the island.
“On the morning of December 13, 2010, from 9:am to 11:00 a.m., a Youth Prayer Assembly will be held at the Waterfront in Castries. Students from all schools around the island will converge along with the Her Excellency Dame Pearlette Louisy, Prime Minister the Hon. Stephenson King, the Leader of the Opposition Dr. Kenny Anthony and members of Parliament. “ Officials from the Diplomatic Corps and specially invited guests are also expected to participate in the ceremony of inspiration and reflection. “
On that same day from 2 p.m., ecumenical services will be held at six locations throughout the island.
“In Canaries,” Mathurin says “the service will be conducted at the Roman Catholic Church. In Fond St. Jacques the service will be conducted at the Roman Catholic Church. In Marc/Bexon the service will be conducted at the Marc Seventh Day Adventist Church. In Ti-Rocher Castries, the service will be conducted at the Ti-Rocher Primary School. In Dennery, the service will be conducted at the Dennery Roman Catholic church and in Vieux-Fort the services will be coordinated at the Victory Pentecostal Church.”
Mathurin believes that while Hurricane Tomas had a detrimental impact on Saint Lucians, it has rekindled cherished values of caring, sharing and community spirit.
