Tuesday, May 11, 2010 The ministry of health will be introducing measures to deal with the poor maintenance of public health facilities, through the establishment of a preventative maintenance programme.  Health minister Hon. Dr. Keith Mondesir says, government intends to do a great job at ensuring that not only are the health facilities kept up to par but the equipment within them as well.

“We believe that we will do a better job in maintaining our hospitals, our wellness centres and all the real estate that the ministry owns, especially as we are going to be having with three new hospitals in the near future and all of these require proper maintenance for them to last the time that they should.

The health minister says in addition to ensuring properly maintained health facilities, the ministry will also be ensuring that there is a cadre of well trained and motivated staff at all of its institutions. Dr. Mondesir says government will continue to source external assistance to provide training.

“If your staff is not motivated, it is not productive; it’s at a great cost to you and any businessman would know that.”

Dr. Mondesir says the government of Saint Lucia is doing its best to offer health care services that are second to none in the region.
