Wednesday 19 May 2010 – Cricket clubs in the village of Choiseul are gearing up for the climax of the Rufus Bousquet 20/20 Cricket Tournament, this weekend. The tournament is named after the district representative, who has provided sponsorship totaling ten thousand dollars in addition to the donation of cricket gear.
The Choiseul MP says the objective is to redirect the focus, priorities and thinking of the young people of his constituency. “I am planting the seed in the ground, I am asking all of you to water it; talk to your friends, cousins, nephews to encourage them to come on the field and practice, rather than to go and lime on the block and smoke weed,” the MP for Choiseul said. “That is what I am trying to do and if all of us can get together and unite in that positive effort for the growth and development of our community, then the community will be a better place for all of us.”
Mr. Bousquet says he is confident that monies will be well spent by the Choiseul Youth and Sports Council, which will be responsible for disbursing the funds.
Meantime, the Rufus Bousquet 20/20 cricket tournament is already said to be creating lots of impact in the community, with twelve registered clubs comprising over one hundred and ninety players.
“The other important thing to note is that the twelve clubs range from La Pointe in the west of Choiseul to Park Estate in the Eastern Side of Choiseul, touching every major ridge in Choiseul. The Rufus Bousquet 20/20 competition should create an impact and will also encourage more togetherness and support,” said Mc. Arthur Phillip, social transformation officer and manager of the cricket committee.
Mr. Phillip says as a means of encouraging full support and participation in the tournament, a special prize will be awarded to the team which generated the most support throughout the tournament. |
