Monday, May 3, 2010 – The fuel market pass through system implemented in September 2009, has come in for commendation by independent Senator Everistus Jn. Marie.
Mr. Jn. Marie says the implementation which caused a stir of uncertainty at first, has been running smoothly for several months now.
“I want to acknowledge the government's demonstration of will to implement this policy. I had my own doubts initially because this has been around for so long and nobody has done anything about it. I want to acknowledge this government’s political will to do what is the right thing.”
The senator however noted that government must prepare early for the challenge of more hikes in the price of fuel. The senator advised that government make the necessary projections, and positions itself to deal with an increase in demand for energy.
“With the increasing demand for energy you should expect an increase in the price of crude oil and that's going to be your challenge.”
The senator cautioned that if the price of oils returns to the 2008 cost of $147.00 a barrel, government must be prepared to deal with the situation, so we need to make provisions for that.” |
