Tuesday 18 May 2010 – Officials at the Cultural Development Foundation, CDF, say the organization is reaping the rewards of its strengthened partnership with the government of Saint Lucia.

Executive Director of the Cultural Development Foundation, Kennedy “Boots” Samuel says that during the past financial year, his administration has been working closely with the ministries of finance and education in modifying programs aimed at rejuvenating the arts and culture.

Mr. Samuel says he is gratified that the CDF is able to show concrete developments by facilitating the disbursement of financial grants last week, totalling approximately $100,000, for cultural arts development proposals, submitted to the Foundation during the 2009/2010 period.

“It does mark a decisive turn in government's response in this area. The importance of facilitating the creative work of the artistes by making some resources available is certainly beneficial and of assistance to persons involved in arts and culture.”

Mr. Samuel says the Cultural Development Foundation will continue to work closely with Saint Lucia’s many artistes and government to further strengthen and enhance the management and production of cultural and art resources.

“When it comes to arts and culture, artistes need freedom to be able to create, use their imagination and to be less hindered by the problems of trying to obtain resources for management and so on. I think one of our major tasks is to help in that area. Within the framework of the CDF’s operational budget, we set aside funds to be able to respond to all of the project proposals that come in.”
