Friday 28 May 2010 – The Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards has issued for public comment the Saint Lucia Code of Practice SLCP 3:2009 Code of Practice for Product Recall Procedures. The code provides guidelines to be followed by agencies in respect of the recall of any product which represents a hazard to the public health and well being.
The Code of Practice (COP) was originally adopted as a national COP in 1998 and has been used as a guidance document by various organizations. With new advances in the area of product recall and corrective action, the code was reviewed by a Product Recall Working Group for updating to meet new requirements.
While this is not a new standard, the consensus and transparency nature of standards development demands that revised documents undergo the same public review and comment process.
To this end, the revised code has been circulated to key stakeholders and the public through all public libraries. Persons are encouraged to comment on areas of concern to them in an effort to ensure that the input of all interested parties will be considered in the development of the standard.
The SLTB believes that this is a very important process, as standards development is not only the business of the Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards, but consumers and industry need to be involved in the process to ensure that their interests and concerns are represented.
The Code of Practice and pubic comment form are available at all public libraries, the offices of the Bureau of Standards and on the Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards website, www.slbs.org.lc. |
