Lucius Doxerie Friday, March 19, 2010 – As the United Nations observe World Water Day
today, local officials are reiterating the need for consumers to conserve the
precious resource, especially in the current dry spell. This year’s observance
is being held under the theme, “Clean Water for a Healthy World” and
focuses on the importance of quality and quantity in water management.
The United Nations sees the observance as a means of focusing attention on the
importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of
freshwater resources.
World Water Day 2010 and its campaign, is envisaged to raise awareness about
sustaining healthy ecosystems and human well-being, through addressing the
increasing water quality challenges in water management.
The campaign is also raising the profile of water quality by encouraging
governments, organizations, communities, and individuals around the world to
actively engage in proactively addressing water quality, in pollution
prevention, clean up and restoration among others.
Each year, World Water Day highlights a specific aspect of freshwater.
