Amanda-Faye Clarke Monday, March 8, 2010 – Saint Lucia's Commonwealth Youth Representative has urged government to work with youth to effectively tackle issues which will impact the social landscape of Saint Lucia.
Mr. Marcellus Cazaubon says Saint Lucia's future progress is dependent on today's work towards peace building, economic and family stability, youth empowerment, and the enhancement of our education system.
In his message to youth on the occasion of Commonwealth Day, on Monday March 8, Mr. Cazaubon called on young persons to challenge relevant authorities to listen and support their aspirations.
“Whilst we may not have an abundance of material and financial resources, we as youth possess bright, diverse and creative abilities that we can put to work. In this process of coming together there should be no negative discrimination made between youth on the block and the youth who are conservative,” Cazaubon said.
“There should be no lines drawn between the youth who are not so economically endowed and the youth whose pocket may be bulky with dollars and cents, or even the youth whose party may be SLP supporters and the other whose family might be UWP supporters.”
Mr. Cazaubon says if the citizenry pull their strengths together much can be accomplished to forge new frontiers for youth development and prosperity.
“Nou tout jenes se yonn. Nou tot Sent Lisyen se yonn! [All young people are one; all Saint Lucians are one.] The issues that exist affect us all; therefore we should all work together to break the barriers and shackles that inhibit our progress that are so often embedded in discrimination due to socio-economic statuses and the partisan political short-sightedness that cripples the prevalence of good sense.”
Mr. Cazaubon says he will put his best effort into partnering with Saint Lucian youth who are prepared to be agents of change, in order for Saint Lucia to realize optimal national development.
Commonwealth Day is being observed this year under the theme: “Science, Technology and Society”. |
