Tuesday, March 16, 2010 – The broad-based task force which was established to undertake public consultations on the revised Treaty of Basseterre and OECS Economic Union, has successfully executed a sensitization exercise targeting Saint Lucian parliamentarians.
On March 16, parliamentarians met in the House of Assembly for an interactive seminar which was facilitated by officials from the OECS Secretariat. House Speaker Hon. Dr. Rosemarie Husband Mathurin said parliament office was pleased with the initiative.
Saint Lucia’s Ambassador for OECS Diaspora Affairs, Dr. June Soomer, in addressing parliamentarians said Saint Lucia has always had a vested interest in ensuring more efficient functioning of the regional integration movement.
“This session with parliament is the first to be held in the region and affords parliamentarians the opportunity to become more familiar with the revised treaty and make final changes before the signing in July, 2010.”
Dr. Soomer says over three thousand copies of the revised treaty have been circulated. The OECS Secretariat team included Miss Ema Jean Isaac, Miss Lisa Phillip, Dr. Keith Friday and Mr. Kessa Benjamin Antoine. |
