Wednesday, March 10, 2010 – The Minister for Commerce, Industry, and Consumer Affairs, Senator the Honourable Tessa Mangal, has completed highly successful fact-finding visits of manufacturing plants in the north and south of the island.
Minister Mangal and her delegation embarked on the proactive missions to get a better appreciation of the operations of the manufacturing sector, in order to better address the sector's needs.
She says the team from the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Consumer Affairs was able to achieve its mandate while addressing some of the immediate concerns of manufacturers.
“Sometimes we sit on our comfortable offices and make decisions without an adequate understanding of what it is that our businesses go through. I think if we take some more time to come and see exactly what it is that you do, then we will have a better appreciation and put ourselves in a position to assist you even better,” the minister said to the manufacturers.
As part of the fact-finding mission, Minster Mangal and her delegation visited over twenty manufacturing plants where discussions were held with management and staff.
President of the Manufacturers' Association, Paula Calderon, has commended the minister for the level of interest shown towards the manufacturing sector.
“I think it is an excellent idea and it was time that the minister come out and visit the various factories to see exactly what we do, so when problems arise ministry officials will have a better understanding of our operations so they would be better able to assist us.”
The fact-finding visits to the manufacturing plants is in keeping with the commitment of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Consumer Affairs, to assist with the development of the manufacturing sector.
Minister Mangal says the tour is the continuation of fruitful cooperation between the ministry and the manufacturing sector. |
