Local bottle water company receives standard mark

Wednesday, March 31, 2010 – The Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards has awarded the Standard Mark to Local Bottle Water Company, Sunsmart Beverages of AMK Inc., Producers of People’s Choice Natural Pure Water.

The standard mark is a major component of the Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards Product Certification Scheme and is issued to products which meet the requirements of the national standard.

Minister for Commerce, Industry and Consumer Affairs, Senator the Honourable Tessa Mangal, says the standard mark derives its legal status under the Standards Act, and is a seal of proof of a good quality and safe product.

She notes that the standard mark is important in a world where there is a wide variety of goods, and consumers are concerned about quality and safety.

“My ministry attaches great significance to the quality and safety of local products. The issues of quality and safety are very fundamental and relevant to our developmental needs. We cannot continue to support the habit of buying and consuming sub-standard goods on the basis of their affordability, price and availability. We cannot continue to support, sustain and enrich the industries of other countries flooding our market with cheap, poor quality goods at the expense of our own well-being.”

General Manager of AMK Inc and Former Bureau of Standards Director, Dr. Allison Plummer says her company is committed to manufacturing safe, healthy beverages under the highest internationally recognized standards that exceed customer expectations in domestic, regional and international markets.

The mission, Dr. Plummer explains is to place AMK Inc. ahead of its competitors in the global arena.

“I want to say, I cannot imagine running a business without these guidance documents. I want to urge all other fellow manufacturers—because it’s open to everybody, it’s free, it’s not proprietary—to utilize the local services that are available to help you.”

The licensing ceremony for Sunsmart Beverages of AMK Inc. was held on Wednesday the 31^st of March, 2010.
