Tuesday, March 9, 2010– The government of Saint Lucia is elated at a major financial contribution from a friendly government towards the reconstruction of the St .Jude Hospital.
After contributing medical equipment valued at over two hundred thousand United States dollars, the government of India on Tuesday afternoon, donated $US250,000 towards the St .Jude Rehabilitation Fund.
India's High Commissioner to Saint Lucia, His Excellency Kanwal Jit Singh Sodhi, says the government of India's support towards rebuilding the St Jude Hospital is in keeping with the good spirit of diplomatic relations enjoyed between Saint Lucia and India.
“When we heard about the tragic St Jude Fire and efforts to restore the hospital the government of India thought that we should do something and contribute to the reconstruction of the hospital.”
In accepting the cheque on behalf of the government and people of Saint Lucia External Affairs Minister Honourable Rufus Bousquet, extended thanks to the government and people of India, for what he described as a noble contribution.
Minister Bousquet says Saint Lucia will never forget its diplomatic allies like India that came forward to assist in time of need.
“Saint Lucia started with a very significant Indian population and the evidence of this is all around particularly in the south of the island. Recognising what has happened and the speed which the Indian government has come forward and the size of their contribution, I want to take this opportunity to thank the government and people of India for this very generous contribution.”
The financial contribution from the government of India is the largest single donation which has been made towards the St Jude Rehabilitation Fund to date. |
