Tuesday, March 30, 2010 – The introduction of a human resource development centre in the community of Monchy is expected to afford residents the privilege of accessing modern services in a state-of-the art environment.
Minister for Social Transformation and Parliamentary Representative for Gros-Islet, Honourable Lenard Montoute, says the establishment of the human resource centre is symbolic as it represents government’s commitment to provide access to social utilities to low-income citizens.
Minister Montoute explains that the Centre will among other things, provide social and technical services that will enrich the educational experiences of students.
“For too long, people of Monchy had to depend on the town of Gros-Islet for basic services, having to be displaced from where they are, to go to Gros-Islet. I want as district representative for this constituency, to ensure that this is a thing of the past and that Monchy residents have all the amenities, facilities and social infrastructure that they deserve so that they can conduct their business and interact without having to leave their community.”
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Social Transformation, Donovan Williams, says his ministry has always stressed the need for facilities such as the Monchy human resource centre, and as such, he will continue to advocate for more initiatives to empower citizens in order that they lead productive lives.
Mr. Williams explains that the establishment of these come with hurdles and has urged residents of Monchy and environs to guard the newly-completed building jealously.
“I think you need to see this as a start and not an end. I think as you grow as a community, your needs will grow as well and it will also provide you with an opportunity to see where and how you can expand the services offered at the Centre.”
The Monchy Human Resource Development Centre was formally opened on Saturday, March 27, 2010.
The facility was funded by the European Union Social Framework of Assistance SFA at a cost of $EC900, 000.00. |
