Wednesday, March 17, 2010 – The Upton Gardens Girls’ Centre has received a donation of agricultural and kitchen equipment, as it celebrates 30 year of service to vulnerable girls. The donation was made by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) SFA 2006, through the Ministry of Agriculture.
National Coordinator for the FAO/SFA 2006, Jeremiah Serieux, says the aim is to promote the important linkage between the farm and the kitchen.
This latest donation to the Upton Gardens Girls’ Centre will go a long way in complementing the agricultural programme, which the Centre has been successfully running over the past twenty-eight years.
“And now we have added to this nice cultivation out there, meaningful trees and other citrus fruits which we can use as part of the food preparation of the programme,” Director of Upton's Girls' Garden Centre, Prisca St. Paul said.
Chief Planning Officer in the Ministry of Agriculture Charles Isaac, says the donation is not just about promoting the practice of eating what you grow but applying the science of agriculture and food processing. |
