Thursday, March 11, 2010 External Affairs Minister Honourable Rufus Bousquet, who also holds the portfolio for International Trade and Investment, says government is very interested in strengthening relations with the government and people of India.

Minister Bousquet who recently met with India's High Commissioner to Saint Lucia and the country's permanent representative in New York, says the government of India has put forward many proposals to assist Saint Lucia in various areas.

Mr. Bousquet says working closely with India in areas of mutual interest will be one of the government’s priority areas heading forward.

“It is important for Saint Lucians to note that India is one of the growing powers of the world, India is a country which is developing at a very quick pace with a tremendous amount of economic power and these are the sought of countries that are recognising us even more and they are also making their presence felt and showing a willingness to assist us in more ways than more.”

India and Saint Lucia have been close diplomatic allies for many years, during which time India has supported Saint Lucia in many sectors including health and banking.
