Thursday, March 18, 2010 – The Saint Lucia Diabetic and Hypertensive Association is anticipating greater support services for persons living with diabetic and hypertensive conditions.
Director of the Saint Lucia Diabetic and Hypertensive Association, George Eugene says the addition of a US Peace Corps Volunteer, deployed to his organisation to assist with the creation of programs aimed at public sensitization and patient treatment, will highly augment the Association’s response to the needs of its members.
Mr. Eugene says as of January, plans for the unveiling of the Association’s database have been running full steam ahead, thanks to unwavering commitment of the United States Peace Corps.
“We’ve put together programs that are going to impact the public and private sectors, as well as members of general public. These are some of the plans that we could not have executed on our own. So, I am excited about the possibility of this partnership.”
Sam Shopinski is the US Peace Corps assigned to the Saint Lucia Diabetic and Hypertensive Association, as the programme development officer. He says his priority is to design an information portal that will be of tremendous benefit to Saint Lucia and the wider OECS.
“The database he is talking about is really going to be a national registry so that stakeholders like the ministry of health and the Medical Schools can use to really target future programs, tailored around particular communities, individuals and concerns.”
The Saint Lucia Diabetic and Hypertensive Association’s national database will be launched later this year. |
