Tuesday, March 30, 2010 – The Caribbean Centre for Development Administration (CARICAD) has held a workshop in Saint Lucia looking at methods and practices of policy development.
The purpose of the workshop was to present to participants with the findings of a survey into the methods and practices of the policy development process in Saint Lucia.
CARICAD’s Executive Director Jennifer Astaphane says serious policies are made without substantive evidence.
“We are promoting an evidence-based policy making approach. That is, we need to use quantitative data. We need to be able to measure, to see whether the policy has made an impact because policy execution can be quite costly.”
The stakeholder workshop will obtain views on the validity, or otherwise, of the findings and recommendations, including any amendments that may be required; agree on what needs to be done to strengthen policy development in Saint Lucia, and to agree on follow up action by CARICAD. |
