Thursday, 17 June 2010 - The just concluded National Youth Parliament exercise has been commended by participants as an appropriate platform for providing young persons with a rare opportunity to slip into the shoes of the actual members of the House of Parliament, thus affording them a unique experience to speak to the nation.

The seventeen parliamentarians and ten senators who participated in the Youth Parliament, were provided with an extended period of of rigorous training in public speaking, other areas of Parliamentary protocols, an audition, and several practice sessions. Youth leader of the opposition Alisha Ally says, the experience was worthwhile.

“It showed us what being in a leadership position is about. Youth parliament helps to groom the leaders of tomorrow. Youth parliament is not just about standing in the House of Parliament and speaking; one has to be properly groomed to articulate one’s thinking on matters that are pertinent to the country’s development.

The Youth Parliament was coordinated by the Ministry of Social Transformation, Youth and Sports.
