The Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Saint Lucia Tennis Association will be organizing a Tennis Camp during the period of 2nd August to 13th August 2010, at the National Tennis Centre and the Coconut Bay Beach Resort and Spa. The aim of this venture is to promote the sport of tennis and to foster cultural exchanges between the people of Taiwan and Saint Lucia.
To that end Young Saint Lucians between the ages
of 6 to 14 are invited to attend. Parents can also play their part by coming and
giving support to their children during the camp period. The tennis camp will be coached by 6 outstanding
tennis players from the Fu-Jen Catholic University in Taiwan, as well as coaches
from two local tennis academies. Other organizations involved in the tennis
bonanza are the Marcelle’s Tennis Academy, OMS Academy, Coconut Bay Beach Resort
and Spa, International Tennis Federation and Saint Lucia Red Cross. Two locations are designated for the tennis weeks. The first week is from 2nd to 16th August, 2010, and will be held at the National Tennis Centre in Beausejour, Gros Islet, with 72 places open. The second week will be from 9th to 13th August 2010, at the tennis courts of the Coconut Bay Beach Resort and Spa, Vieux Fort with 60 places open.
During the above mentioned period the camp will start at 9am and will end at 3.30 PM, with a one hour lunch break.
Apart from the main activity of general tennis
skill and knowledge, there will also be funny games, handcraft skills, and magic
shows. This will be followed by Taiwanese and Saint Lucian dance and music
exchanges. Please note that lunch and tennis rackets will be provided, however participants who possess their own tennis equipment are advised to bring them along. Transportation will also be provided. For the first week camp there will be two buses leaving Derek Walcott Square for the National Tennis Centre. For the second week camp the pick up time and route will be announced at a later date.
There will be a minimal cost for the Tennis camp which is 100 E.C. per each week. Application forms are available here.

The tennis centre contains 6 tennis courts. One of which the main court is designed according to international standards and can accommodate up to 320 spectators. Each court will be equipped with a high quality of
lighting system to accommodate evening activities. The national tennis centre will be completed by the end of July, 2010. The opening ceremony is scheduled to take place on the 1st of August, 2010 with friendship matches between Taiwanese and Saint Lucian players. The highlight of the New National Tennis centre will be the holding of the 2010 Coca Cola Cup due later in August.

Something about Fu Jen Catholic University
It was founded by the Holy See in 1925 in Beijing
(China), and then reopened in Taiwan in 1961. Currently the University comprises
of 9 colleges (Liberal arts, Arts, Foreign Languages, Science and Engineering,
Human Ecology, Law, Social Sciences, Management, Medicine). There are 48
departments, offering 46 Master’s programs, 22 in-service Master’s programs, 11
Ph.D. programs with 15 departments in the School of Continuing Education. The land Capacity of the University is about 35 hectares and current student population is 26,000. |
