Monday 8 November 2010  Saint Lucians in the diaspora are reaching out to  their  fellow Saint Lucians with several humanitarian  initiatives.

Recently, star footballer of Saint Lucian parentage—based in the United Kingdom—Jermain Defoe, launched an appeal for victims of hurricane Tomas.

Defoe supported by family  members launched the appeal during a brief ceremony at the High Commission for Saint Lucia on Thursday, 4th November in conjunction with KIDS TASKFORCE, a UK based  programme for schools..

During the ceremony he presented  over 1000 books for schools in Saint Lucia to High Commissioner His Excellency Eldridge Stephens.

The schools chosen for this  project  are Augier Combined, Blanchard Combined, Desruisseaux Combined, and Micoud Primary.

The High Commissioner  hailed this goodwill  gesture as timely and extremely useful  for Saint Lucia in the aftermath of Hurricane Tomas. He further expressed the  appreciation of the government and recipient schools in Saint Lucia.
