Wednesday, January 27, 2010 – The planned reconstruction of St Jude Hospital moves into another phase with the appointment of an eight-member project technical team, headed by a project manager.
According to the government’s press secretary, Darnley Lebourne, the team will be responsible for providing technical advice related to construction of the hospital.
The St. Jude Task Force, which is headed by Prime Minister Stephenson King will also monitor construction to ensure compliance with design specifications, international health standards and cost effectiveness. Over the past two months, the St. Jude Task Force has been engaged in intensive consultations with the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO), in order to rationalize and arrive at a concrete decision with respect to the bed stock for the new St Jude Hospital,” Lebourne said.
Mr. Lebourne says the appointment of the St. Jude Technical Committee marks a shift in the process from a policy and design phase to an implementation phase.
“One of the first undertakings of the technical committee will be to preside over the review of the design plans to reflect the national health agenda for the south of the island. In the meantime, government will go ahead with plans to stage the ground breaking ceremony to mark the commencement of construction work.”
The ceremony, Lebourne revealed, will be held as part of Saint Lucia's 31st anniversary of Independence. |
