Friday, January 22, 2010 – Less than one hundred days to go before the first ball is bowled, Sports Minister Hon. Lenard Montoute is urging Saint Lucians to purchase tickets and support upcoming ICC 20/20 world cup at the Beausejour Cricket Ground.
The limited-overs tournament scheduled from April 30, to May 16, 2010 will see Saint Lucia host first round matches where defending champions Pakistan, will battle against Bangladesh.
Saint Lucia will also host super 8 matches and a semi-final match.
Minister Montoute says given the limited-overs format and the quality of matches, he is confident that Saint Lucia's hosting of matches will be a success.
“I will make a presentation to Cabinet in consultation with the Chamber of Commerce to consider giving time off to workers who want to attend matches on days when there are matches during the week, even if it means that time off will be given to employees who can demonstrate that they have purchased tickets. We will do all what we can to facilitate Saint Lucians who wish to attend the matches,” Montoute said.
Minister Montoute, however, says the government of Saint Lucia has no intention to distribute free tickets as was done for the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2007.
Match tickets cost between US$10, to $US40. The home team—West Indies—will open the tournament in Guyana, on April 30. |
