Friday, January 22, 2009 – The division of Human Resource Development in the Ministry of the Public Service is continuing to invest in the development of public servants, in an ongoing effort to increase efficiency and productivity in the public service.
Last week the human resource division hosted assistant secretaries at a workshop to discuss issues relating to enhancing the work of the service.
Director of the Human Resource Division, Irene St. Croix, says enhancing the efficiency and productivity of the public service remain a top priority for 2010.
“We are looking to improve performance within the government service and our next workshop will deal with performance management to ensure that individuals who are not performing can get the required training and assistance to develop; so we are really hoping to see a positive change in the public service,” Miss St. Croix said.
St. Croix says the ministry of the public service is also placing tremendous importance on enhancing human resource management and retirement planning in the government service.
“Currently we need to have succession planning, because this is very important since we need to be able to plan ahead in order to move on with the work programme,” Miss St. Croix said. “Too often we get recommendations for replacements at the last minute, and by the time we go through the required process the work programme would have encountered a setback. We hope that coming out of this workshop, the human resources personnel will go back to their ministries and start planning for improvements in the public service.”
Ms. St. Croix says the ministry of the public service is committed to tailoring the government service to operate at its optimum with the highest level of professionalism. |
