Thursday 21 October 2010  Representatives from the OECS member states as well as Trinidad and Tobago, Guadeloupe and the Dominican Republic completed a two-day workshop aimed at creating  greater linkages and networking amongst the participating territories.

The purpose of the workshop was to bring the users of  Strabon Caraibe, three year old web portal in one forum to discuss and find ways to improve the cyber site.

National Archivist and Chairperson of the workshop, Mrs. Margot Thomas  says the web portal is designed primarily to enable persons to find out more about  the culture, history and  and natural heritage of the Caribbean

"On this site, we are endeavouring to provide accurate interesting and informative information about the cultures  of the countries, so that it could be a one-stop shop for persons who want to find out what is happening  in those countries, the history of those countries and the heritage of those countries."

One of the first decisions taken during the assembly of Caribbean conservationists was to rename the site. It is now called "caribbeanheritageconnections.org". Mrs. Thomas anticipates that the users of the site will be thoroughly stimulated and that the Caribbean region will benefit tremendously.

"What is happening now is that people are decrying the fact that those in authority do not seem to know the value of the land, the value of our beaches and the locals are being gradually pushed aside for the tourists. But we want them to see the tourists and the locals should be able to enjoy the beauty of the countries and have a stake in preserving the countries."

The Saint Lucia based French Ambassador  to the OECS, Michel Prom delivered opening remarks during the workshop on Monday 18th of  October while  the keynote address was delivered by the Executive Director of the Saint Lucia National Trust, Mr. Bishnu Tulsie.
