Wednesday, February 17, 2010 – The Office of Private Sector Relations (OPSR), has officially signed a STRIDE Business Incubation Assignment Agreement with the United Kingdom Business Incubation (UKBI) consultancy firm.

The signing of STRIDE, which stands for Strengthening Trade through Rural Investment and Development of Entrepreneurship, signals the formal commencement of a comprehensive study on focal areas of economic development in Saint Lucia.

The incubator study is an integral element of the STRIDE program and is a tool used to providing a range of business support services, with a view to bolstering new and thriving micro, small and medium enterprises.

Minister for Commerce, Industry and Consumer Affairs, Senator the Honourable Tessa Mangal, says the business incubator consultancy, will identify methods to stimulate increased production of competitive export products throughout Saint Lucia.

“At the end of this consultancy, we hope that the OPSR will be well equipped and empowered to quickly enact and implement the necessary reforms. The local and regional private sector, local entrepreneurs, business associations, young people, women and the general populace, are all anxious to begin reaping the benefits under STRIDE.”

Chief Executive of the United Kingdom Business Incubation consultancy firm, Peter Harman, explains that the final report will give a comprehensive analysis of the necessary infrastructural, institutional, legal, policy and financial regulations of establishing an appropriate framework to facilitate economic development.

“This is about harnessing potential that exists in Saint Lucia, exploring new markets, particularly those outside of Saint Lucia, to grow the economy. It is also about exploring the potential of not just the businesses, but also the entrepreneurial potential that exists.”

The UKBI will work with many business organizations to complete the business incubation assignment by June, 2010.
