Wednesday, February 10, 2010 – The Small Enterprises Development Unit (SEDU), has successfully executed another training programme aimed at enhancing the skills of entrepreneurs.  The thirteen individuals, who have completed the Project Management Professional's course, now form the newest group of project management professionals.

During a recognition ceremony on Wednesday, 12th of February, to acknowledge the successful completion of the course, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce   Marie-Ange Leonard, noted the importance of project management skills in many sectors.

“Survival is predicated upon the implementation of strategies geared at achieving greater profitability. Project management strategy presents the opportunity for all organizations to better manage resources to achieve better results. Project management involves doing the right thing the right way,” Leonard said.

Officer in Charge of SEDU, Barbara Innocent Charles, says six years ago, the unit embarked on the journey of establishing local project management training and certification. She says now in its 12th cycle, the programme has thus far churned out 86 project management professionals.

“The PMP credentials signify to an employer, that here is someone who upholds the highest standards, has strong leadership skills, quickly adapts to change, but most importantly effects transformational change. Schedule delays will be reduced significantly, there will be maximization of time and effort and generally, a higher quality of performance at all times.”

Project management is the discipline of planning, organizing and managing resources, to bring about the successful completion of specific project goals and objectives.
