Wednesday, February 17, 2010 – The Royal Saint Lucia Police Band is hosting the Hampshire band from England as Saint Lucia is poised to celebrate its 31st anniversary of Independence.
55 band members arrived on island Tuesday, accompanied by friends and family.
The director of the band, David Baffon, says the group is looking forward to being part of the occasion and hopes to exchange musical experiences with the Royal Saint Lucia Police Band.
“The band has been in existence for 115 years this year, and we are very pleased to be in Saint Lucia to assist in the Independence celebrations this year at the invitation of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Band.”
Director of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Band, Superintendent Gregory Piper, thanked the band for accepting the invitation, and says the public can expect quite a show from the visitors.
“We have invited the Hampshire band after formulating a relationship with them over the past year. We found it fitting to invite them down this year to take part in our Independence celebrations. The Hampshire band is a very experienced, well renowned band and whilst here they will perform at various locations”
Among key activities which the military style Hampshire band, will stage are performances at the Derek Walcott Square, and the Independence parade on February 22. |
