Monday, February 8, 2010 The government of Saint Lucia is finalising plans for a major national rally for the St. Jude Hospital come February 28.

The activity will be used to honour individuals who assisted in many ways in the aftermath of the September 9 blaze. Government has decided to provide assistance to the families of the three fire victims.

The St. Jude rally will also be used to raise funds for the reconstruction of the hospital.

As of January 21, the office of the prime minister has raised just over two million and fifty seven thousand dollars towards reconstruction efforts.

Prime Minister Honourable Stephenson King says government intends to break ground for the construction of the new hospital very soon.

“The reconstruction of the St. Jude Hospital is a top priority for the government and the sod- turning ceremony will take place during the first quarter of this year. We are currently finalising arrangements for the reconstruction of this vital facility in the south of the island,” the prime minister said.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister King has expressed sanctification about the level and quality of work done on the foundation of the new general hospital thus far.

The medical institution which is being constructed along the Millennium Highway in Castries is earmarked to cost EC$150 million.

Mr. King says a substantial amount of work on that new hospital will be completed by the end of this year.
