Tuesday, February 23, 2010 – The government of Saint Lucia ushered in the thirty-first independence anniversary with prayers and songs of praise.
Home Affairs and National Security Minster Senator Honourable Guy Mayers, endorsed the National Gospel Concert which was held on the Castries Waterfront Sunday night.
The event which was organised by the gospel group Special Blend, formed part of activities to celebrate Saint Lucia's thirty first Independence anniversary.
Minister Mayers says the concert promoted love, peace, and unity, which he says are very important right now, as society continues to grapple with rising crime.
“I think it was appropriate because if we can put God in our lives, we will not allow Satan to use us in the way he used some of our young men. It is important for us to return to the family values that were spoken about, and if we can inculcate appropriate values in our young people, if parents take their responsibilities more seriously and if all of us take personal responsibility, I think our country will move forward in a much better way.”
Several of Saint Lucia's best gospel entertainers like Emerand Henry and Shirley Ann Cyril Mayers participated in the concert.
The hoisting of the national flag at approximately midnight, officially marked the country's thirty-first Independence anniversary.
The event concluded with a remarkable display of fireworks which lit up the city circuit. |
