Thursday, February 18, 2010  The Ministry of Labour, Information and Broadcasting has established a Minimum Wage Commission for a period of two (2) years.  The mandate of the Commission, as contained in the Minimum Wage Act Chapter 16.09 of the Revised Laws of Saint Lucia is to “advise and make recommendations to the Minister on all matters relating to the fixing of a minimum wage and terms and conditions of service”. 

 

The Commission consists of seven (7) persons, inclusive of members nominated by the associations most representative of the labour force and employers, the National Development Corporation, and three (3) members nominated by the Governor General who represent women in the workforce, agricultural workers and small businesses.  The Commission will be chaired by Mr. Cyrus Reynolds, a former public servant and educator.
