Thursday, February 4, 2010 – The ministry with responsibility for social transformation, youth and Sports has been commended for its efforts at improving the standard of living in and around the Faux-a-Chaux community.
On Wednesday, the ministry though the Saint Lucia Social Development Fund (SSDF), formally handed over the keys for a fully equipped Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC) to the residents.
Social transformation minister, Honourable Lenard “Spider’ Montoute, says the HRDC will assist the residents in exploring their full potential.
“This resource centre is critical to this community and I am convinced that you will use it to its optimum level in this regard,” the minister said. “I am further convinced that the merits and benefits of this project will far outweigh the initial capital outlay for the rehabilitation works undertaken. Already the centre is being used for the ministry's community after school programme—an initiative that provides numerous opportunities for the youth in various developmental areas, like information technology and personal enrichment.”
As part of the upgrade to the facility, the SSDF also funded the construction of an information technology centre, the complete repainting of the building and a new roof. To complement the new structure computers and other equipment were also donated.
Parliamentary representative for the community, Honourable Dr. Robert Lewis says, a facility of that nature is of importance to the residents particularly the vibrant youth.
“I want to extend thanks to the ministry of social transformation and the Saint Lucia Social Development Fund,” Dr. Lewis said. “I also want to express thanks to the residents of Faux-a-Chaux for their persistence and to the government of Saint Lucia for seeing this project through.”
The Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC) was refurbished and equipped by the ministry of social transformation following a request from the Faux-a-Chaux Development Committee.
Minister Montoute urged the residents to take full ownership of the facility and ensure that it is not vandalised. |
