Thursday, February 25, 2010 – Plans for the staging of the 19th Annual Saint Lucia Jazz are running full steam ahead.
Government and tourism officials met Wednesday evening, to formally launch the event which Saint Lucia Jazz stakeholders deem the greatest party in the region.
Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Senator the Honourable Allan Chastanet says, his emphasis is on making Saint Lucia Jazz the première musical show in the world.
This year, although the Saint Lucia Tourist Board experienced some hurdles in finalizing the list of Artistes for the event, minister Chastanet explained that he is eager to showcase the hard work of his team at the tourist board.
“The effort was directed at including more Saint Lucians in the line-up this year. With the success we had last year, we are hopeful that patrons will also be happy this year. We are looking forward to a lot of the talent we have in Saint Lucia being displayed on the main stage.”
Minister Chastanet has also made a special call to the local citizenry to play their part in ensuring the successful staging of the Saint Lucia Jazz 2010—free of criminal and violent activity, indiscriminate littering, and other trivial nuances.
“I see things that are not truly Saint Lucian; I refer to the garbage I see all around the place and the increase in crime. We can argue that that this is the responsibility of the government or put the blame on our neighbours, but it is not until we take a stance that we will succeed.”
Wednesday's launch of the 19th Annual Saint Lucia Jazz, saw the unveiling of over 20 musical icons, including Laura Izibor, Jean-Luc Ponty and Corrine Bailey-Rae. Among the local acts unveiled, were Boo Hinkson featuring Tempest, Teddyson John, and Claudia Edward. |
