Monday 11 October 2010  The Cultural Development Foundation (CDF) has identified Dennery as the main host community for this year’s annual observances of the Feast of La Marguerite, one of two Flower Festivals celebrated here in Saint Lucia.

Director of the Cultural foundation Kennedy ‘Boots” Samuel says the CDF is expecting   a large turn out of Marguerite groups within the Dennery basin and environs.

“The celebrations will begin with a church service at the Saint Peter and Paul Catholic Church  and we expect all the  Marguerite communities  such as Dennery,  Laborie, Aux Leon and  Deniere Riviere to converge on the Dennery church for a wonderful service filled with the rhythm, colour and splendour of this unique flower festivals in Saint Lucia—the  Marguerite festival.”

Mr. Samuel says in addition to community observances, schools will hold their own celebrations.

“The Marguerite festival is a little bit smaller than the  La Rose. Not  as many communities celebrate Marguerite as the La Rose,  but the Marguerite festival has grown in strength in recent years  within the  school population.  This year we have 30 schools including for the first secondary school that will be participating.”

The schools’ celebrations will take place on Friday 15th of October on the Derek Walcott Square with a cultural presentation from 10.00 a.m.  Before the presentations it is expected that the schools would attend a church service at the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception.

The community celebrations will take place on October 17.
