Wednesday 8 December 2010 – As the Christmas season nears, the Saint Lucia Blind Welfare Association continues to highlight the plight of the needy and disabled especially in the aftermath of the major hurricane.
In the context of its membership, Director of the SLBWA Mr. Anthony Avril says the Association is seeking assistance for its blind and visually impaired who were impacted by the November 30 cyclone.
“Many of our clients need foodstuff and they need water. There are a number of communities in Saint Lucia where water has not been restored. Our clients for obvious reasons cannot make their way easily to points in the community where water is being distributed, so we are looking for water containers. We are also very concerned about those who suffered some measure of damage to their homes. “We certainly want to take the opportunity to wish a very happy Christmas to all the blind and vision impaired persons and persons with disabilities in general wherever they may be in Saint Lucia.”
Mr. Avril expressed optimism that the philanthropic spirit displayed by many Saint Lucians in the aftermath of the disaster remains as a shining example for all to emulate through out the new year.
