Monday 6 December 2010 The festive season was on Sunday evening  ushered in when the community of Babbonneau  hosted the Festival of Carols at the Good Shepherd Church.

Member of Parliament for Babonneau, Honourable Ezechiel Joseph said such  a spiritually uplifting activity is much needed now, especially in light of the many traumatic occurrences  the country has suffered this year.

“I want to recognize the efforts of each and everyone of us who have suffered. We have persons who have lost their loved ones, we have persons who have lost their homes, we have persons who have lost their economic activity. In fact in Babonneau we did suffer in that regard . The record shows about fifty homes were lost in Babonneau.”

The minister called for  individuals to continue to support victims of Hurricane Tomas into the  Christmas season and beyond, noting that government, though doing all it can, cannot do it all.

“We all know that this year has been a very challenging year for us. We started with a drought, then we had a flood and a hurricane. And  whist this hurricane has spared us, I think we should celebrate  under the theme of 'unity' because I must say that over the past weeks I've seen saint Lucians  coming together and uniting as one.”

The Festival of Carols was  held in Babonneau for the first time.
