Thursday, April 29, 2010 – Minister for Tourism Senator the Honourable Allen Chastanet says the value of airlift should not be underestimated as it is an imperative to the viability of Saint Lucia’s tourism industry.
Commenting on the Appropriations Bill, Tuesday, the minister said this summer will see a significant increase in airlift to Saint Lucia.
“This summer we're going to be seeing an unprecedented expansion of seats in the summer time. Jet Blue will go to five flights out of New York; American Airlines is expanding its New York service from two to four flights weekly. We're also seeing American Airlines change the gauge of its planes from 737s which carry 150 passengers to 757s, both in the morning and afternoons. We're also seeing that Delta Airlines has gone tom 757 planes and in addition adding a second flight three days a week – Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays.”
The minister added that US Air has now moved to two flights a week out of Charlotte and this summer will mark the first time that Saint Lucia will benefit from four direct flights out of Canada. |
