Tuesday, April 13, 2010 – The third delegation of six medical professionals from Taiwan is currently on island to assist with the staff shortage at the St. Jude Hospital.
The medical professionals, comprising four doctors and two nurses, will work in their specialized areas of expertise over a three-week period.
Minister for External Affairs, Honourable Rufus Bousquet, says he expects the St. Jude Hospital to be positively impacted by the professional exchange program.
“Certainly, the contingent of doctors is good. In many of these disciplines, we never have too many doctors or too many nurses. With your experience, you will be able to share with our people and vice versa; at the end of the day, we are all better for your presence.”
Taiwanese Ambassador to Saint Lucia, His Excellency Tom Chou, says this third exchange will be of mutual benefit to both countries.
Ambassador Chou adds that he is proud of the co-operation between the St. Jude Hospital and the Changhua Christian Hospital; a model that is now being initiated by other OECS islands.
“During their stay, not only will they provide excellent and first-class medical services to the people in the southern part of Saint Lucia, but also in the meantime, enjoy your beautiful scenery.”
The Taiwanese Medical Team will work in the Gynaecology, Internal Medicine, Orthopedic, Surgery, and Emergency Departments.
The Changhua Christian Hospital and the St. Jude Hospital signed a 20-year Agreement on the 8th of July, 2009—an initiative that will ensure the continued professional development and support services for the Medical Staff of both institutions. |
