Thursday, April 22, 2010 The Ministry of Social Transformation in collaboration with the St. Lucia Social Development Fund (SSDF), has formally opened a changing room facility on the grounds of the Grande Riviere playing field.

Minister for Social Transformation and Parliamentary Representative for Gros-Islet, Honourable Lenard Montoute says, his ministry’s mission is to transform the sporting arena island-wide, and as such his ministry will work closely with agencies which place youth development at the heart of its project initiatives.

“This structure here will facilitate the young people and residents of Grande Riviere in their sporting activities. This is to ensure that we do everything possible to make this environment for participating in sports more user-friendly, especially as we are trying to encourage young ladies to become more involved in sports. We want to ensure that all the necessary facilities are in place to encourage the sports for all philosophy adopted by this administration.”

Executive Director of the Saint Lucia Social Development Fund SSDF, Joachim Henry, says the SSDF is committed to investing in the social development of Saint Lucians, and will continue its partnership with the ministry of social transformation and the department of youth and sports to further enhance sporting facilities on the island.

The construction of the changing room facility at the Grande Riviere playing field, is one move forward in bringing sporting facilities at the local community level up to international standards.

“There are a lot of investments taking place in our country of which directly and indirectly we benefit. When we invest in such projects, it shows that we are concerned about our people; it is evidence that we are concerned about our communities. Such investments must be taken seriously.”

The ministry of social transformation and by extension the government of Saint Lucia has called on all social groups within the Grande Riviere community, to pull together to ensure that the newly commissioned facility remains in the best possible condition.
