Wednesday, April 28, 2010 – The National Community Foundation (NCF), has completed what it says was a very successful telethon—the organisation’s main fund raising activity.
Executive Director of the National Community Foundation, Juliana Alfred, says although the event did not raise the targeted EC$250,000, she is still quite elated at the support and commitment rendered to the organisation by corporate citizens and the general populace.
Ms. Alfred says the EC$186,000 raised will be immediately pumped into the many NCF projects which are targeted at different sectors of the community.
“We are very happy for those who committed and made the pledges because at the end of the day we collected $EC186, 000, and that is a significant improvement from last year in terms of pledges; we are very excited that persons came out. Even those who did not come to the telethon called in to pledge and we are very happy about that. The NCF will continue to aspire to get the $EC250, 000 because at the end of the day, the NCF expends over half a million dollars in terms of programming.”
Meantime, the National Community Foundation has begun putting logistics in place for the hosting of its summer programs—initiatives which cater directly to the recreational and educational needs of disadvantaged children.
Ms. Alfred says the NCF takes much pride in creating the itinerary of events which will contribute to the holistic development of the participants of the program.
“Summer is coming up. That is one of our busiest periods in terms of our chess initiative in the schools. During the summer period, we execute our chess programme. The tournament sponsored by EC Global, takes place in July. Parallel to that we also have other summer initiatives that we will be having at with various schools—mainly arts and culture programmes.”
The 9th Annual NCF Telethon was held at Samaans Park in Castries, on Sunday, April 25. |
