Friday, April 30, 2010 – Member of Parliament for Anse La Raye/Canaries Honourable Dr Keith Mondesir, has made a recommendation to local police which is designed to ensure that the nation’s youth stay out of trouble and always attend school.
Dr Mondesir has advised the police to develop a closer relationship with all schools around the island.
Dr Mondesir who is a former minister for national security says in addition, the police force should develop specialised patrol units for schools in ever district.
He explains that such an effort will ensure that students are not regular absentees thus maximising every moment of school time.
Dr Mondesir says a similar system has been tested and proven in Curacao where education officials have realised tremendous success.
Dr Mondesir says after holding preliminary discussions, officials in Curacao are willing to assist Saint Lucia with the development of a similar school policing initiative.
Although there is a police crew assigned to schools here in Saint Lucia Dr Mondesir says that system needs to be enhanced and sustained. |
