Wednesday, April 14, 2010 – Contributions towards the reconstruction of the St. Jude Hospital continue to pour in, as two local organisations pledged their support towards Government’s mission to re- construct the health care facility.
The National Workers Union and the Pentecostal Assembly of the West Indies are the latest donors, contributing $5000 and $20,000 respectively.
Shop steward of the National Workers Union, Tabula Aimable-Amedee, says her organisation’s contribution to the St. Jude Hospital rehabilitation project, is testimony to its commitment to tend to the welfare of its members throughout the island.
“We know that the health of the nation would mean having a healthy workforce. Being cognizant of what the labour force would mean to the nation, we felt that we needed to make our contribution to the reconstruction project because we know that our members would benefit. We also understand the importance of the tourism industry. Without an emergency room, we would not have all those planes land at Vieux-Fort.”
Prime Minister, Honourable Stephenson King says government is ensuring that all logistics are in place for the commencement of work on the new hospital.
The aim, he says, is to commission only world-class medical institutions on the island.
“We’ve received donations from charitable organisations, large and small church groups, individuals from every strata of our community, the business community, corporate citizens, friends from overseas, and friendly governments that have found it necessary to participate in this venture of reconstructing St. Jude Hospital. As a government, it is on our priority list to ensure that the hospital is reconstructed so that it will continue to provide the level and quality of service that it provided prior to the fire.”
The cheque presentations were officially made to Prime Minister King at his official residence on Friday, April 9. |
