Wednesday, April 21, 2010 The opening of the Jalousie Enclave—the newest addition to the Jalousie family—is expected to bolster socio-economic activity in the Soufriere/Choiseul district.

Prime Minister and Saint Lucia’s Minister for Finance, Honourable Stephenson King, says while his government is supportive of the construction of the impressive, village- style residential project, he will remain committed to preserving the natural environment.

The Jalousie family of luxury properties is nestled in the rich fauna near Petit Piton—one of the twin-peaks which earned Saint Lucia, world heritage status.

“I believe that this area is too sensitive an area, both land and sea, for it to be destroyed. It is noteworthy that Mr. Mahvie, the parliamentary representative and others who have been involved in the development of this area when it, first started with all the controversy, can look back and say that we have made some headway and seen successes in being able to preserve and protect this area in particular.”

Pascal Mahvie, owner of the Jalousie Enclave says his company of workers is cognizant of the sensitivity of the environment in Soufriere and the importance of the Pitons world heritage status to Saint Lucia’s tourism industry.

“Every tree here has already been marked where the development is going to happen. You also need to know that our plan is not to go over 20% coverage, which should put a lot of minds at ease. We have 193 acres that we are keeping greenbelt and there are 72 plots for homes.”

Construction of the Jalousie Enclave began on Monday April 19.

When completed later this year, the property will feature an interpretation centre, recreation centre, boulevard, clubhouse and much more.
