Wednesday, April 14, 2010 – Three Saint Lucians will be undertaking educational pursuits that will later redound to the good of the blind and visually impaired people of Saint Lucia. Recently, the Saint Lucia Blind Welfare Association made good on a scholarship offer by the Caribbean Council for the Blind–the CCB.
Executive director of the Saint Lucia Blind Welfare Association, Mr. Anthony Avril says, the Association is happy to announce, that the scholarship recipient selection process is completed, and the lucky individuals will be announced shortly.
“The Caribbean Council for the Blind Sight Saver International, offered Saint Lucia some ophthalmic scholarships. This is in an effort to upgrade the ophthalmic programmes of the SLBWA and Saint Lucia. The places we are given are for a doctor to study to become an eye surgeon, two optometrists and two refractionists.”
Mr. Avril noted that the Association has just come to the end of its interview process for prospective candidates.
“We think we have selected some capable and suitable candidates so we are looking forward to this with some degree of excitement. The successful recipients will be bonded upon their return.”
Meanwhile, the SLBWA is gearing for May as “Blindness Awareness Month”. The public is called on to show increased interest in the activities that will be hosted this year. |
