Monday 29 November 2010  Saint Lucia, the Caribbean region, and the world at large are to benefit from the skills and expertise of  five hundred and ninety one qualified Saint Lucians who graduated from the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC) this past Sunday.

The graduates who completed certificate, diploma, and degree programmes in a number of areas, have been challenged to use their knowledge and expertise to effect positive change in the world.

The SALCC Principal Dr Beverly Anne Lansiqout says it is critical for the graduates to remain committed to the pursuit of excellence.

“You will be moving ahead to join the ranks of numerous others who walked the halls of SALCC and who used their experiences here as a bridge to further education or to enter or enhance occupational and professional careers.

“We are proud of the contributions of the SALCC alumni who are making significant contributions to their communities both here and abroad and therefore we look forward to your contributions to society and the further development of this institution.”

Dr. Lansiquot says the continued success of the college demonstrates the strong resolve of Saint Lucian and Caribbean people in times of crisis.

“The entire college community was impacted by challenges but there was learning in these experiences for us all as we were forced to gain new knowledge, build skills in problem solving, think creatively, develop our tolerance for each other’s strengths and  communication skills and focus on caring and doing the right thing regardless of its popularity. We hope that the lessons learnt also strengthen your skills in adapting to change, increasing your awareness of the far reaching impact of global phenomena on our small island nation and prepared you for your adventure through academic pursuits and your personal and career goals.”

As is customary several of the graduating students received special recognition for their academic excellence, outstanding achievements, contribution to the quality of college life, and professional potential.

This year the island scholars were awarded to Mr Trent St Rose and Miss Seralee St.Cyr from the Division of Arts, Science and General Studies.

The GIS will provide  more information on the SALCC’s graduation in forthcoming reports.
