Wednesday 27 October 2010 – Twenty one institutions are participating in the fifteenth Annual College Fair—which opened in Castries on Wednesday October 27—hosted by the government of Saint Lucia seeks to expose the nation’s youth to various avenues for higher education.
Minister for the Youth and the Public Service, Honourable Lenard Spider Montoute, says the fair seeks to expose the nation’s youth to various avenues for higher education.
“The college fair is hosted to help prospective students and their parents make informed decisions about further education, to provide interested Saint Lucians with an opportunity to discover the diversity of higher education in the Caribbean, United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, to limit the amount of time and money spent when applying to tertiary institutions and to provide regional and international institutions a unique opportunity to diversify their student population by recruiting high calibre of students from Saint Lucia.”
Minister Montoute is encouraging the nation`s youth to make full use of the college fair and the opportunities which are available for higher education.
He says over its fifteen year history, the fair has benefited many young Saint Lucians who have gone on to excel in their studies.
“Lately, we have seen the growth in the number of American universities offering partial and full tuition scholarships—an attraction that the other country representatives could consider. Reports have also shown that Saint Lucians students generally do exceptionally well at most of the foreign universities, particularly the American universities, scoring GPA`s of 3.0 and above. This year we look forward once again to a positive feedback from the evaluation, more scholarship offers for the people of Saint Lucia and long-lasting relationships between the government of Saint Lucian and participating countries.”
Participating colleges are from the United States, Canada, the Caribbean and the United Kingdom.
The annual college fair which is being staged at the Blue Coral building in Castries continues today, Thursday October 28.
The fair is opened to the public from 9AM to midday and from 2PM to 6PM.
