The training which runs throughout the week of September 28th, at the NSDC, is being facilitated by the National Council of the Technical, Vocational, Educational Training (NCTVET) of Jamaica, an International Standards Organization ( ISO) certified institution.
General Manager of the NSDC Selma St. Prix, said the Centre had decided to blaze the trail for the TECVOC institutions by accrediting the institution.
“This would enable us to provide the correct certification. CSME is the way to go, and if we are moving, we want to be able to move and compete among the other islands,” she added.
Most of the islands in the region possess the wherewithal to offer the Caribbean Vocational Qualification Certificate, and St. Prix believes Saint Lucia must get on board. The NSDC, according to St. Prix, is hoping to provide accreditation in Agriculture, Hospitality, Construction and Information and Communication Technology—the four main areas of training.
“After you’ve gotten your accreditation and the institution is accredited, there will be ongoing audits to see that we keep up to the standard that we have set.; what it would do, is to give people confidence and trust in what we offer—so you can leave Saint Lucia and be recognized,” St. Prix said. |
