Monday, October 19, 2009 – Broadcasters from across the region ended a two-day Seminar last week in Saint Lucia on the Caribbean Single Market and Economy, the CSME.
The seminar was the brainchild of the CARICOM Secretariat in collaboration with the Association of Caribbean Media Workers (ACM).
Communications Specialist within the CARICOM Secretariat, Salas Hamilton, told the GIS, that whilst the Secretariat did not specifically tag the media as the CSME mouth piece, the media’s role in the integration process is pivotal.
“This week in Saint Lucia, we've been looking at sharing information with CARICOM broadcasters from throughout the region. Topics such as the free movement of skills, free movement of capital services were talking points. We also discussed the nature of institutions such as the CARICOM Development Fund, and the CARICOM Competition Commission,” Hamilton said.
Hamilton says such sessions will assist in ensuring broadcasters are knowledgeable and therefore confident to engage their audiences and national leaders on issues pertaining to the Caribbean Single Market and Economy.
The CSME Broadcasters Seminar was sponsored under the Ninth European Development Fund and the Caribbean Integration Support Programme (CISP). |
