Thursday, October 15, 2009 – Government has announced that it has so far raised one million, three hundred and forty-nine thousand, seven hundred dollars, towards the restoration of the Saint Jude hospital.
That figure is expected to increase in coming days, as contributions from the corporate community continue to pour in.
On Wednesday, the JQ Charles Group of Companies donated a cheque to Prime Minister Honourable Stephenson King, for fifty thousand dollars worth of building blocks, towards the restoration efforts.
Prime Minister King says government will soon unveil its plan for the restoration of the hospital.
“The fact that we lost the institution as a result of a fire on September, 9, certainly created a very big void in the network of health services on the island. Therefore there is a great need for the government and people of Saint Lucia to ensure the restoration of the Saint Jude Hospital within the shortest possible time. Let me indicate that this is the commitment of the government of Saint Lucia.”
In presenting the cheque, General Manager of JQ Cement products Ian Charles, said the donation is in keeping with the company's commitment to the people of Saint Lucia.
“As a company which has been a social partner over many years, we felt obligated to give back to the society in this time of need, hence, we would like to make this donation of fifty thousand dollars worth of cement and building materials on behalf of our company.
Prime Minister Stephenson King applauded the many corporate institutions that have realised the importance of supporting the efforts to restore the St. Jude Hospital.
The government of Taiwan is scheduled to make a financial donation towards the restoration of the St. Jude hospital on Monday, October 19. |
