International Student Essay Competition: Deadline approaching

Friday, October 2, 2009 CRSCAD is sponsoring an international student essay competition on the topic of the conference, Rebuilding Sustainable Communities with the Elderly and Disabled People after Disasters. The aim of the contest is to persuade college and university students to examine the challenges that the elderly and the disabled face during and after disasters in their own cultural and local contexts.

 

The 50 winning essays will be published as a CRSCAD monograph and the top 20 winners will be invited to participate in the conference and publicly honored. For further information please send an e-mail to crscad@umb.edu. (you are also welcome to contact me, however I will out of the office until October 19th. I would happy to reply the day I return.)

 

Eligibility: Any currently enrolled College or University student anywhere in the world

 

Length & Format: Approximately 3000 words. Essays are to be submitted in English (or the native language of the student accompanied by a typed English Translation) and sent as an email attachment to crscad@umb.edu

 

Submission Deadline: November 1, 2009

Announcement of winning essays: March 1, 2010

 

Evaluation criteria: Original and unpublished; quality of data and analysis; writing quality (Style and mechanics, clarity, organization); knowledge and depth of understanding of the topic:
